About Pizzeria Serio

My Pizza was inspired by the pizzaiolos that immigrated to America from Italy and opened the first Pizzerias in NYC, many of which are still in existence today. I like to call it NeapolAmerican, but some might call it NY Style or New Haven style, but whatever you call it, it’s instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with East Coast Pizza. It has the same DNA as those pizzas made by Neapolitan immigrants as they started adapting their pizza to American tastes. From the great Slice Joints like Ray’s or Joe’s to the β€œPie Only” places like John’s, Lombardi’s, Grimaldi’s, and Patsy’s, I wanted to bring a similar Pizza to add to the great pizza landscape in Chicago.

We had the Diavola pizza and the hot sopressata with red onions were crispy and perfectly balanced heat versus sweet. The crust was fired crisp and had small black char marks. 100% The kids had a pep/cheese and no complaints were heard. Even the picky child was happy. The art history brewing krausen lager was slightly carbonated, light and crisp. It hit the spot after a long Saturday workday. We ordered the large spinach salad. The walnuts and crumbled goat cheese paired well together.

We went while we were in town last week. We positively loved it. We had a margherita pie, a sweet heat pie and split an arugula salad. Plus, we had some solid cocktails from the bar (they are only $5 on Thursdays!!). The crust on the pizza was the most memorable thing for us. It's a perfect balance between Neapolitan airiness / char and New York structure / chew. I crave it just thinking about it. The tomato sauce was bright and fresh. Plus, they use Grande' mozzarella from WI which shows a commitment to quality. The "large" salad was big enough to split 3 ways (but we still found a way to finish it). The dressing on the salad was nicely balanced (lemon, oil, salt, cheese). I wish it was a "tossed salad" and not "dressing on the side" but I say that at nearly every restaurant. The second most memorable thing about it: the service. Everyone we dealt with was professional, skilled, friendly and energetic. If we lived in the area, we would be regulars here. Highly recommend.

Feb 2025 Ambience was casual, went on a Wednesday night. Great service. Food did not wow us- got the pesto margherita pizza and the goat cheese dip. The pizza lacked flavor. However their dough so great. Would not come back because there are so many better pizza places in Chicago!

Came last night and had a really nice meal. Service was wonderful! Very nice staff, and the space was big and didn’t get too loud. We came during lakeviews restaurant week and tried a few things off the menu. I got the sweet meats which had interesting flavors. My husband got the margarita pizza and really enjoyed it. Both of these pizzas were the small size and have 6 slices so it could be shared! Not sure we would get the breadsticks again. Will definitely come back.

Great pizza! They are currently doing takeout only. We ordered the sweet heat and the big cheese. I personally like the sweet heat the best but both were packed with flavor. The sausage had a nice spice to it. The crust was cooked to perfection. It's more traditional Italian style. Would definitely orde from them again. The staff was great!
